Abstract: The onset of temporally unstable director-reorientation regimes in a nematic liquid crystal has been studied by numerical simulation for the case in which two waves of orthogonal (linear) polarizations are propagating through a crystal in an optical field and a (quasistatic) magnetic field. The results are compared with experimental data.
