Abstract: An experimental investigation was made of laser activation of diamond surfaces (single crystals and polycrystalline diamond films) prior to electroless before catalytic deposition of metals from solutions. The activation was carried out by a copper vapour laser or a KrF excimer laser in two ways: decomposition of a thin film of palladium acetylacetonate and local laser stimulated modification of the diamond surface by laser evaporation. An ohmic contact (Cu or Ni) with an adhesive strength of 3 N mm–2 was formed and the spatial resolution achieved was 10 μm.
