Abstract:
An investigation was made of stimulated Brillouin scattering in the course of focusing of broadband radiation in an active medium. The result was not phase conjugation but widening of the beam which, combined with retention of the wavefront curvature, was equivalent to narrowing of the angular distribution of the beam. A study of the influence of the strength of the beam focusing on this effect was made. The effect could be used in a two-pass XeCl amplifier.
