Abstract: A simplified model of asymmetric compression of shell targets was constructed on the basis of estimates and an analysis of calculated data. It was found that in the quasiablation regime (compression ratios of ~ 102–103) the evolution of long-wavelength perturbations of the shell profile accompanying a large-scale inhomogeneity of laser irradiation may cause a substantial (by two orders of magnitude) drop in the neutron yield.
