Interaction of laser radiation with matter

Generation of electromagnetic fields during emission of electrons into an ambient gas and plasma from the surfaces of laser-irradiated disperse particles

V. I. Igoshin, R. R. Letfullin

Abstract: The mechanism of generation of electrostatic and quasistatic electromagnetic fields in a gas-disperse medium under the influence of laser radiation is proposed and investigated theoretically. Reasonable physical assumptions are used in a study of the generation of fields during emission of electrons into an ambient gas and plasma, and of the influence of the ambient medium, shape of disperse particles, and conditions during gasdynamic expansion of the substance being evaporated on the potential and on the emission properties of a particle. It is shown that the effects associated with the shape of real disperse particles and with the inhomogeneity of electron emission play the dominant role. The results of the reported calculations are in qualitative and quantitative agreement with the experimental data.
