Generation of giant pulses by 2-μm lasers with a germanium exit mirror

Abstract: A germanium exit mirror was used for passive Q switching of a YAG:Cr:Tm:Ho laser. In contrast to a YSGG:Cr:Tm:Ho laser, there was no damage to the semiconductor surface by giant pulses generated at room temperature.
