Abstract: A review is given of the radiation-optical properties of glass fiber-optic waveguides. Particular attention is paid to an analysis of radiation-induced absorption in multimode fiber-optic waveguides having pure and doped quartz glass cores. Dependences of the induced absorption on the dose, power, and type of radiation, on the temperature, the concentration of dopants and hydroxyl groups in the core, and on the wavelength and power of the probe radiation are discussed. An analysis is made of the kinetic curves of the changes in the induced absorption both during and after exposure to the radiation. Some models describing the effects of radiation bleaching and optical bleaching are analyzed. The propagation of a bleaching pulse through a radiation-darkened waveguide is examined.
