Reduction of the switching time of a liquid-crystal optical transparency

Abstract: An investigation was made of the frequency characteristics of the switching on and off of the dynamic scattering of light in nematic liquid crystals in alternating electric fields. A study was made of the influence of an alternating electric field and of short field pulses on the duration of dynamic scattering. A complete image-recording cycle was less than 1.2 msec and it ended with complete relaxation of a liquid crystal to the transparent state.
