Separation of rotational lines of a CO₂ laser with a film selector in the resonator

Abstract: A thin metal film was used in the resonator for the selection of CO₂ laser rotational lines of wavelengths 9.6 and 10.6 μ. It is shown how this can be carried out in practice. A tentative explanation is given of some features of the typical emission spectra obtained when the resonator length is varied by λ/2.
