Ruby laser with a wide emission spectrum

Abstract: A discussion is given of the possibility of widening the spectrum of the radiation emitted by a Q-switched ruby laser to a value which would make it possible to reduce the influence of the atmospheric absorption lines. A report is given of an experimental investigation of a ruby laser with an emission spectrum 0.5–0.6 Å wide.
