Abstract:
An analysis is made of the interaction of concurrent fields in nonlinear optical or holographic media in which the refractive index is modified directly during recording. The speckle mode theory is used to derive a system of equations for the amplitudes of perturbations of the medium and also for the amplitudes of the interacting fields dependent on z and t; the latter may be both plane and speckle-inhomogeneous. Analytic and numerical solutions of this system of equations are obtained for some cases. The results are used to calculate the diffraction efficiency of transmission holograms made of media of the Reoksan type. Potential advantages expected from the use of speckle-inhomogeneous fields in recording such holograms are pointed out.
