Bleachable dithiene filter for an iodine laser

An investigation was made of the feasibility of using radical cations and dithienes for Q switching and decoupling of amplifiers. A bleaching effect was observed in dithienes, making them potentially useful for an iodine laser. A decrease in the transmission as the radiation intensity increased was observed for some radical cations, i.e., they may be used as fast switches.
