Abstract:
Positive and negative aspects of the influence of the signal phase on self-switching of radiation in tunnel-coupled waveguides are discussed. Its influence on the performance of optical transistors, amplifiers, and multivibrators utilizing this effect is also examined. Variants of the switching method, which eliminate the influence of the phase of a weak alternating signal on its differential amplification process, are analyzed and investigated. Optical multivibrators that are insensitive to an instability of the wave phase shift in the feedback loop are proposed and studied.
