Electron-beam-controlled spatial and temporal modulator of light made of Bi12SiO20

Abstract: Experimental and theoretical investigations were made of a spatial and temporal modulator of light made of a Bi12SiO20 crystal. It was found that the resolution of a modulator made of this photoconducting crystal was practically independent of the intensity of the light being modulated. The optimal dimensions of the modulator crystal were determined as a function of the diameter of the electron beam.
