Radiative-collisional source of sound

Abstract: The transport equations for a gas interacting with light are obtained in the framework of the 13- moment Grad approximation. It is shown that under transient conditions the light-induced drift effect generates acoustic vibrations. The proposed mechanism of the generation of sound is characterized by a dependence of the vibration amplitude on the sign of detuning relative to an optical resonance, which makes it possible to avoid the masking effect of thermal excitation of sound.
