Investigation of optical waveguides fabricated by titanium diffusion in LiTaO3

Abstract: An investigation was made of the optical characteristics of waveguide layers fabricated by diffusion of titanium in LiTaO3. A quantitative dependence of the change in the refractive index on the dopant concentration was established and the parameters of Ti diffusion in Y- and Z-cut crystals in the temperature range 1165–1310 °C were determined. The results yielded the necessary data required for controlled production of these structures.
