Abstract:
A theoretical investigation is made of some characteristics of the heating of materials by pulsed laser radiation incident obliquely on the surface of a target. "Excessive" heating is observed. An analysis is made of the specific materials, conditions, and spectral ranges for which this phenomenon is most clearly observed. By allowing for excessive heating, it is possible to optimize the energy required to achieve a given maximum target heating temperature.
