Strong compression of dye laser pulses by single-pulse picosecond excitation

It is shown that strong compression of dye laser pulses may be achieved by single-pulse picosecond excitation. The mechanism of formation of the temporal structure was used to obtain spectrally limited picosecond pulses. Broad control of the lasing spectrum was achieved.
