Spatial self-phase-modulation of light in a photorefractive crystal subjected to an external alternating field

Abstract: A mechanism of spatial self-phase-modulation of light in a photorefractive crystal subjected to an external alternating electric field is proposed. An experimental study of such modulation is reported for a barium sodium niobate crystal.
