Passive mode locking in iodine photodissociation laser

An investigation was made of a group of dyes suitable for the use in passive mode locking in a laser resonator with an operating wavelength in the range 1.1–1.4 μ. An iodine dissociation laser was used by way of illustration to demonstrate experimentally the generation of pulses of 0.3 nsec duration.
