Abstract:
An analysis is made of the possibility of laser emission from excimers and exciplexes of aromatic compounds. The cross section for stimulated emission from excited particles is used as the main criterion. Approximate estimates indicate that the lower limit of this cross section for compounds known to exhibit laser emission is (3–5)×10–17 cm2. In the case of excimers and exciplexes of aromatic compounds examined in the present paper this cross section is an order of magnitude less. It follows that lasing of typical intermolecular and intramolecular excimers and exciplexes is not very likely.
