Refractive index of a vibrationally excited gas

It has been established that the contribution made by vibrational excitation may be appreciable, particularly in the case of molecular polarizabilities, and should be taken into account when determining the temperature and density in nonequilibrium gases. The results are calculated for important molecules such as CO, CO₂ and SF₆.
