Optimization of the parameters of a CO chemical laser by increasing the length of the active medium

An experimental investigation was made of a CO chemical laser utilizing a CS₂–N₂O–O₂ flame having an active medium up to 3 m long. Attention is drawn to the need to match the dimensions of the active medium to the mode structure of the resonator. A chemical efficiency of 15% was achieved for a cw laser radiation power of around 100 W.
