Analysis of structural changes on the surface of a layer medium exposed to laser radiation

Abstract: An analysis is made of the formation of periodic surface structures on the surface of a layer medium. Calculations are made of the energy release as a function of the period of the structure. The conclusion that waveguide modes play a decisive role in the formation of periodic surface structures is confirmed experimentally.
