Recording of the interference of counterpropagating femtosecond laser pulses

Abstract: The interference of counterpropagating femtosecond pulses was recorded with the aid of a ring dye laser pumped by an Ar laser. Plates with an emulsion up to 250 μm thick were used as a recording medium. A procedure for equalising the optical paths of the beams to within 5 μm was developed. Reconstruction of the recorded interference structure produced a diffraction image.
