Determination of the saturation parameter in a fast-flow CO2 active medium

Abstract: A diagnostic method was developed for determination of such an important characteristic of a CO2 active medium as the energy stored in the vibrational degrees of freedom of molecules, which can be determined directly from the experimentally measured powers of probe beams without the need for any additional information on the medium and without any numerical calculations. Measurements were carried out using a real fast-flow system, which satisfied the conditions of validity of the proposed diagnostic method, and the correctness of the approach was confirmed. The results obtained demonstrated the efficiency of the excitation of the medium when the pump conditions were varied.
