Gain and lifetime of acoustic phonons under conditions of stimulated Brillouin scattering in titanium tetrachloride

Abstract: An experimental investigation was made of a new substance TiCl₄ with promising properties for wavefront reversal. A comparison with the known gain g and the known lifetime T₂ of CCl₄ under stimulated Brillouin scattering conditions was used to find g = 2×10^–2 cm/MW and T₂ = 2 nsec for TiCl₄.
