Possibility of construction of a pulse-periodic large-volume electron-beamcontrolled laser utilizing infrared transitions in the Xe atom and characterized by a specific output power of 0.5–1 W/cm3
Abstract:
A study was made of the energy characteristics of a high-pressure electron-beam-controlled laser utilizing an Ar-Xe mixture and emitting at 1.73μ. A laser with an active volume of 10 liters was capable of delivering an output energy of 30J when pumped with an electron beam and 80J when subjected to electron-beam-controlled pumping. When the average density of the electron beam current was 50μA/cm2, pulse-periodic operation of the laser was possible and the average power was then 0.5–1 W/cm3 with the efficiency at the level of 1.5–3%.
