Abstract: A new method is proposed for the derivation of the distribution function of the experimentally determined breakdown thresholds of absorbing microinclusions in a transparent insulator. Expressions are obtained for describing the evolution of this function in the course of irradiation of the insulator with laser pulses of constant energy density. The method is applied to calculate the distribution function of microinclusions in polymethylmethacrylate and the evolution of this function.
