Investigation of optical waveguides in YAG:Nd3+ crystals formed under various ion irradiation conditions

Abstract: An investigation was made of the optical characteristics of waveguides formed in YAG:Nd3+ crystals at liquid nitrogen temperature using various ion doses. A rectangular model of the profile of the refractive index provided a good approximation for S-type waveguides in YAG:Nd3+. The experimental results made it possible to estimate the optimal radiation dose for YAG:Nd3+ crystals.
