Abstract:
A probe wave (λ = 1.28 μm) experienced a phase shift due to the interaction with a signal wave (λ = 1.55 μm) in a nonlinear fiber interferometer with arms differing by 5.7 km. Measurements showed that for a signal wave of 70 μW power this phase shift amounted to 5 X 10 – 2. Such a shift measurement method should be suitable for nondestructive determination of the number of photons.
