Influence of radiation defects on operating characteristics of solid-state lasers

An investigation was made of the time, energy, and spectral characteristics of YAG:Nd³⁺ and glass neodymium lasers which were irradiated with ⁶⁰Co gamma rays in doses of 0–10⁹ R. It was found experimentally that the defects fonned by ionizing radiation altered considerably the operating characteristics of these lasers.
