Abstract:
An experimental investigation was made of the operational characteristics of a 2-μm (λ = 1923 nm) microlaser with a new efficient active medium in the form of a crystal of gadolinium vanadate Tm:GdVO4. Pumping with radiation from a Ti:sapphire laser generated output radiation of 180 mW power, which corresponded to an absolute efficiency of 36% and a differential efficiency of 55%. The differential efficiency of the Tm:GdVO4 laser pumped with a laser diode was 10%.
