Abstract:
A bent dielectric waveguide with a continuous profile of the complex refractive n c is investigated. It is shown that a negative perturbation of the real part of n c can reduce the losses in a bent waveguide. For a given radius of curvature and given parameters of the medium there is an optimal width of a planar waveguide layer for which the losses are minimal. It is shown that the properties of straight and bent waveguides of this type are different.
