"Negative" optical pressure

Abstract: It is shown that collisions between absorbing and buffer gas particles may cause motion of the absorbing particles in the direction opposite to that of propagation of a traveling light wave ("negative" optical pressure). A negative optical pressure acts jointly with an optically induced drift predicted earlier and is observed in its "pure" form for zero detuning of the light-wave frequency from resonance.
