Generation of atomic Os ions by ultraviolet laser fragmentation of OsO₄ molecules

Abstract: Excitation of the OsO₄ molecule with relatively weak ultraviolet laser radiation (~0.5J/cm²) resulted in preferential formation of the atomic Os⁺ ions. The process should be useful in the determination of the isotopic selectivity of multiphoton infrared excitation.
