Influence of a longitudinal inhomogeneity of the excitation on the output characteristics of semiconductor lasers pumped longitudinally by an electron beam
Abstract:
A theoretical analysis is made of the influence of a longitudinal inhomogeneity of the excitation on the output characteristics of semiconductor lasers with longitudinal pumping by an electron beam. Expressions are obtained for the threshold density of the pump current and the maximum differential efficiency of such lasers on the assumption that the emitted light is absorbed by free carriers and lost due to residual nonresonance effects. It is shown that electron beams of 50-100 keV energy are preferable for the pumping of such lasers.
