Role of coherent effects in generation of short light pulses by a high-pressure CO2 laser

A numerical investigation is made of the role of coherent effects in the generation of short pulses in a high-pressure CO₂ laser operating in the passive mode-locking regime or in the regime of regenerative amplification of short pulses. It is shown that for a certain set of laser parameters one can expect generation of ultrashort pulses of duration of the order of the reciprocal of the half-width of the gain profile.
