Methods for flattening the gain spectrum of erbium fibre amplifiers

A review is given of the methods proposed so far for the flattening of the gain spectrum of erbium fibre amplifiers. The most promising methods for fibre-optic communication lines with wavelength-division channel multiplexing are identified.
