Abstract:
An experimental investigation was made of the dispersion of the Faraday rotation near the first overtone frequency of the valence vibration of a C–H bond in a liquid-phase chloroform molecule. By using an optical parametric oscillator and a specially developed highly-sensitive pulsed polarimeter, it was possible to measure the resonance correction to the Verdet constant and also to estimate the difference between the matrix elements of the magnetic moment operator of the upper and lower states of the transition under study.
