Influence of initial modulation on the process of data transfer by solitons in fiber-optic communication lines

Abstract: An investigation is made of the initial modulation on the kinetics of a multisoliton pulse in a single-mode fiber waveguide. Fluctuations at the waveguide input give rise to a divergence of the variance of the distances between solitons with similar amplitudes, and also increase a phase shift because of the soliton–noise interaction. This reduces the rate of data transfer by an order of magnitude.
