Abstract: An investigation was made of functional integrated optics elements based on volume-phase holographic gratings in thin-film optical waveguides. The waveguides were films of arsenic trisulfide. Sinusoidal phase gratings were formed in the bulk of a thin-film waveguide and their function was the reflection and conversion of surface waves. A thin-film reflecting grating filter with a band half-width ~2.5 Å and a maximum reflection coefficient of 0.9 was made. The calculated parameters of the grating structures were in satisfactory agreement with the experimental data.
