YAlO₃:Er³⁺ crystal laser

Abstract: An experimental investigation was made of the output characteristics of a laser utilizing the ⁴I_11/2 → ⁴I_13/2 transition in the Er³⁺ ion in YAlO₃. The lasing efficiency was found to be 0.8%. The minimum threshold pump energy for durations of 100 µsec amounted to 0.5 J/cm. Quasicontinuous operation of the laser was observed.
