Abstract:
An investigation was made of the dissociation of uranium hexafluoride gas at room temperature in pulsed infrared (λ≈16μ) and ultraviolet (λ≈34μ) laser fields. Under the selected experimental conditions (on exposure of UF6 and a UF6–H2 mixture to infrared and infrared + ultraviolet radiation), no isotopic selectivity was observed to within the accuracy of the mass-spectrometric analysis of the residual UF6 in the cell after irradiation.
