Abstract:
An experimental investigation was made of the characteristics of stimulated molecular scattering of pump pulses of 7 nsec duration and 0.01 cm–1 spectral width. The scattering threshold at a pressure of 1 atm was found to be 67 MW at λ = 0.53 μ and the frequency shift of the scattered radiation was 0.042 cm–1 with a spectral width of 0.02 cm–1. Measurements were made of the characteristics of the scattered radiation above the threshold at pressures of 1.5–4 atm. For an excess of 1.5 over the threshold, the coefficient of conversion of the pump energy into scattered radiation was 25% for a scattered pulse duration of 1.2 nsec.
