Abstract:
The effect of the alternation of the chromatographic retention values has been examined for homologous series of sorbates and stationary phases (the even–odd effect) and for other series formed by the successive addition of identical functional groups to the repeating fragments of an aliphatic molecule or ring, as well as by the displacement of functional groups or alkyl groups along a chain or a ring. Particular attention has been paid to the manifestation of this effect when liquid-crystalline stationary phases are used. It has been shown that the difference in the concentrations of given substances in natural materials may be partly due to the alternation of the sorption characteristics.
