The role of topological disorder in the physical chemistry of polymers

Yu. A. Shlyapnikov

Emanuel Institute of Biochemical Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow

Abstract: The topological disorder, which consists of a set of diverse knots, folds, and entanglements of polymer chains, determines many properties of a polymeric substance. It is manifested in processes involving the sorption of low-molecular substances by the polymer and in the chemical reactions of the substances dissolved in the polymer.
