Abstract:
The causes of, and the relations governing, the acceleration of reactions involving lithium alkyls by electron-donor solvents are discussed. The kinetic effect is due to a change in the polarity of the C–Li bond in consequence of the formation of complexes (of the donor–acceptor type) of the lithium alkyl and the solvent and a change in the state of lithium alkyl in solution.
