Abstract:
The present review deals with one type of topochemical heterogeneous-catalytic reaction — the reduction of solid oxides by gaseous reducing agents (chiefly molecular hydrogen) in the presence of small quantities of metallic additives. Experimental data on the influence of these additives on the reduction of various oxides have been systematised, and the general regular features characteristic of these processes have been formulated. These regular features have been interpreted from the viewpoint of an electronic-chemical reduction mechanism. Methods for the practical utilisation of these reactions have been indicated.
