Abstract:
The principal methods for preparing borides, carbides, silicides, nitrides, and oxides of transition metals in Groups IV–VI are surveyed. Distinctions between the concepts "method" and "process" of preparation are examined. The main parameters of methods and processes – temperature, time, chemical reactions, etc. – are summarised in tables. General theoretical schemes for preparation from solutions in melts and by the electrolysis of melts and solutions in melts are discussed in detail. Several prospects for the development and utilisation of the above methods of preparation are indicated. A list of 377 references is included.
